This Tuesday, February 4, Chicagoan-by-way-of-Ontario Natalie Chami brings her solo sound platform TALsounds to Bar DeVille. Chami created TALsounds as her musical nom de plume in the wake of her frequent collaborator Brian Griffith's relocation to Los Angeles in 2011.
Chami forged on in Griffith’s absence. She joined the ranks of Chicago ambient/drone group Good Willsmith in 2011, organized an international network of experimental musicians called Screaming Claws and released her first solo recordings via Chicago’sNotes and Bolts label in June of ‘13.
Sky Face, her debut cassette for Notes and Bolts, contains seven tracks of gently humming layers of synthesizer stitched to sheets of reverberating operatic vocalizations. The result is a sort of gauzy, minimalist impression of the shoegaze narcotics etched out by Cocteau Twins or A Sunny Day in Glasgow. Second-to-the-last track “Breaking Eyes" is carried melodically by a mournful synth warble that shares blissful sonic territory with Eno's Another Green World. Listen here and join us tomorrow night to catch Chami in action.
