Issei Herr uses the vast sound-world of the cello to expose openness, vulnerability, and a sense of wonder in her intricately looped and layered compositions. On her debut album Distant Intervals, released in Spring 2023 on NNA Tapes, Issei distills her musical memories as a classically-trained performer and weaves together bold new narratives, centered on themes of possibility, becoming, and transformation. Upon its release, the album received critical praise and attention from platforms such as Bandcamp Daily (as Album of the Day), Stereogum, Our Culture, New Sounds, I Care If You Listen, Foxy Digitalis, and Them, and landed in the Top 10 of the Billboard Classical Crossover charts. Her live performance highlights include opening for Geotic at Public Records in NYC, and shows in Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Boston. Trained as a classical cellist at Juilliard, Issei began her performance career as a collaborator - featuring as a solo cellist in live performances of Rachika Nayar’s Our Hands Against the Dusk, and premiering a solo cello work by Nico Muhly, amongst many other collaborations. She was also recently featured on a track by experimental hip-hop producer and rapper Decuma. Issei looks forward to a Pioneer Works Residency in Summer 2023.
Tal Sounds: Natalie Chami is a proud Canadian-born Lebanese American who adopted the TALsounds moniker in 2009 for her explorations in the drone, ambient, and improvisational disciplines. Since choosing the TALsounds moniker, Chami has spent over a decade building a brilliant career as a solo artist in Chicago and beyond however now resides in the DMV area. Through her masterful synth work, operatic vocals, and nuanced sculpting of mood and atmosphere, Chami’s music strikes a balance between the extremely personal and the selflessly transportive. She spirals effortlessly through a never-ending carousel of solo improvisations and collaborations with other artists, and she seems to evolve with each performance, no matter how lofty and grandiose or humble and intimate those performances may be.
Flowers for the Dead is the DC-based alternative rock project of guitarist/vocalist Jessie Szegö. Their first release in October of 2021 being a 5 song EP titled 'Nova', engineered by local hardcore producer Don Zientara. Despite being only 5 songs long, Nova displayed an array of musical ideas. Toying with odd time signatures and guitar effects, all while nodding to the band's influence of 90s rock and alternative. Sonically very dark and gritty with lyrics mirroring that unsettling feeling; tackling themes of depression, temptation, and death.
Following the release of Nova, Szegö released the band's debut album 'Quiet Corrosion in the Dancing Hall' in June of 2022. Quiet Corrosion saw the band expanding on their previous sound, while leaning more into indie rock and elements of shoegaze.
