Subterranean hosts an evening of serious Zones - drone / dark ambient / drone slash dark ambient / Americana slash drone - all the subgenres you love are represented on this bill. Come, tune out, fall into a different reality where all preoccupations are false and both space and time are twinverted. Expect massive volume, sweat-lodge-like physical conditions, hallucinogenic projections, and depth. GOOD WILLSMITH 10:15-11:00 is three Chicago-dwelling humans who make long form drone music from processed voices, synths, cassette tapes, and guitars. The trio aims to maximize loop-based spontaneous composition, crafting intensifying sessions that overflow with noise and texture. Four albums surfaced in 2012 - including Is The Food Your Family Eats Slowly on the band's own label Hausu Mountain - each documenting a live event with distinct instrumentation, structure, and strategies. COIN released an album called Stilled on UK-based label Opal Tapes in April. Vallera also performs with Steven Hess (Locrian, Pan American, Ural Umbo) as CLEARED, which provides bleak metallic drone terror. Clark has performed on Oprah, at Le Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, and at the Big Horse Taqueria (R.I.P.); Clark has recorded under contract to Capitol Records and Astralwerks Records and/or under handshake to Honk If You’re A Moose Records (R.I.P.). Clark’s recent music activities include a month-long sound installation and performance residency at the Museum of “Contemporary” Art Chicago. Listen: https://soundcloud.com/three-four-records/matthew-hale-clark-slc-suite EITARNORA 8:00-8:30 is Jon Rosenthal and Val Dorr. The duo creates sessions of improvised folk / Americana-infused drone, which feature drifting harmonium tones, finger-picked classical guitar, and bursts of multi-instrumental grandeur. Dorr's ethereal vocals float over the aural environment, and the whole affair provokes the listener into deep introspection, like an internal journey through a pastoral wooded valley.
